This morning I was looking for my first café in Suwon (a Seoul suburb of 1 million; our former exchange student lives here). Right beside my airbnb I found Mug Coffee & Bakery. The baker is also the owner. Her friendliness and smile are heart-warming! After two lattes and one Earl Grey I ventured out in the rain to explore the area – and yes, of course looking for more cafés that would a) be open during most of the Seollal holiday, and b) open before 10 am. The owner of Mug wanted to lend me an umbrella. I don’t like umbrellas and respectfully declined. And then I got quite wet….and hungry. I returned to Mug, asking if I could have the same bread I saw the owner and her employee eat in the morning. It’s not even on the menu – but yes! Before I could say anything though, she looked at me and brought a towel so I could dry myself. Upon leaving, she was very strict in wanting to give me an umbrella. She only relented when I told her that I stay at the next house. Ah, yeah: I also showed them it was minus 31 Celsius in Whitehorse today! A little rain at plus 4 can’t be that bad. Mug is across from Gate 3 at the Suwon Sports Complex (bus lines 310, 900 and 777 to/from Suwon Station).
