The Other Busan

OMG – snow in Busan – chaos on the streets. South Korea is a third the size as Germany, even more mountainous than my former home country, and yet home to 50 million. Apartment high rises are an absolute must. The humongous apartment cities were particularly impressive from the air on my flight from Busan to Seoul. As an aviation aficionado, I had hoped to fly for the first time in the newest Bombardier aircraft, the CSeries 300 (I refuse to call it A220-300, after its take over by giant Airbus). But because of Seollal (Korean New Year, on Feb. 5 this year) traffic, they switched to a larger B737-900. And the bird wasn’t even full. Dark forces on a conspiracy trail!

A mom waiting for the school bus with her kid:

The snow went away in hours and the next morning we had brilliant sunshine. I walked all the way to the Gupo Market, which is away from the beaten tourist trails. I’m very tall, have blue eyes and blond hair – but the stares were limited. I enjoyed a few tempura shrimp at one of the many street vendors.
